Formerly known as Fruity Loops, FL Studio is a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation). It can be used as a sort of doodle pad for musical ideas or to master tracks that are ready to publish.
FL Studio is full of features that every serious professional or hobbyist needs and wants - from the wave editor and piano roll to oscillators and sequencers. Thanks to the neat appearance and organization, its impressive features are easy to find and learn to use and the GUI allows multiple windows to be worked with.
Users new to digital audio workplaces needn't worry, as the buttons and commands are intuitive enough that even someone unfamiliar with the DAW concept will be able to make music in the first few minutes of use. FL Studio has a very nice drum machine called FPC and a Wave Traveller that allows you to manipulate samples and imitate the vinyl scratches so essential to hip-hop.
FL Studios is already set up as soon as the installation is finished so that it's ready to work; a user can begin to create loops and beats immediately. The browser provides help in the left side of the workspace so the user doesn't have to reach for a help button. The presets, instruments, samples, effects and the clipboard are displayed in a tree view and your recorded files can be easily accessed in this manner. Although there is a great deal of knobs, sliders, lights and drop down menus, they are easy to understand and a beginner will quickly be able to use them expertly.
In all, FL Studio is easy to learn, easy to use and produces results that will satisfy professional musicians as well as the basement-studio enthusiast.
